Government tax revenues were up by 20.5% in February, according to a report by the Department of Taxes (DGII). The DGII says that revenues were up RD$2,926.7 million in February 2012, compared to the same period in 2011. The total for February 2012 was RD$17,063.4 million. During the first two months of the year, the DGII has reported an increase of RD$6,645.5 million compared to 2011. The government collected RD$38,258.6 million in both months, but fell short because the DGII had budgeted collections for RD$39,595.8 million. Last year for the period it collected RD$31,613.1 million. The DGII says that the increase is because the government has been more aggressive in targeting property taxes that were up 43.5%. Personal and company income taxes were up 30.7%.
