Just 200 days to go for the opening of the doors of Sambil, the biggest shopping center in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, say its promoters. This is a well-known name for shopping, services and entertainment, said the president of the project, Alfredo Cohen Kohn, during a visit to Diario Libre director Adriano Miguel Tejada. The mall is scheduled to open on Tuesday, 30 October.

The project director said that the concept of the Sambil plazas is to reach all kinds of public, and they are at a strategic location at the "crossroads of the Metro" which will attract a lot of customers. Located at the intersection of John F. Kennedy and Maximo Gomez, the commercial plaza will house 350 shops on four commercial levels, three floors of parking with a capacity for 2,400 vehicles, a 1,200-seat theater, 14 movie theaters, 18 fast food units, seven restaurants, and a marine museum. The mall has 63,000m2 of store space.

Sambil Santo Domingo promotes commerce, recreation, and tourism in the area, offering all the services with extended hours within an atmosphere that is comfortable and safe, with state-of-the-art architectural design, stated the promoter.

The commercial center is being built by Venezuelan property development company Constructora Sambil. The company has its headquarters in Caracas, and operates malls in Caracas, Valencia, Margarita, Maracaibo, San Cristobal, Barquisimeto and Punto Fijo-Paraguana in Venezuela. The Santo Domingo mall will be its first outside of Venezuela, and the company has plans to open others in Curacao and Puerto Rico.

The plaza will be open 365 days a year, from Monday to Saturday from 10am until 9pm, and on Sundays and holidays from noon to 8pm.

The promoters say the mall will create 4,000 direct jobs and 6,000 indirect jobs.
