The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) has announced that it has dismantled a network of Dominicans, Venezuelans, Colombians and Italians who were supposedly sending heroin and cocaine abroad.

DNCD chief Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo revealed that some of the group members have been passing themselves off as members of the DNCD using hats with the logo and military insignia, which were found during a raid on a house in Bella Vista, Villa Altagracia where the criminals were living.

The raid uncovered 280 bags of a white powder, presumed to be cocaine, military insignia and hats, a money counting machine, a hydraulic jack used to compress bags of drugs, plastic gloves, and a scale for weighing drugs.

They were identified as Dominican Gonzalez de Leon, Venezuelan Alejandro Mata Landaeta, Colombian, Alejandro Mejia Contreras and Italian Calogero Nicosia who are now being questioned and the relevant embassies have been notified.

Rosado Mateo said that it was a major network that sent drugs mostly to Europe, using mules traveling from a number of airports.
