39 inmates were stabbed during a riot at the jail at the Batalla de Palo Hincado military base on Avenida 27 de Febrero in Santiago.
The riot, which apparently erupted over control of the jail, was started by an inmate called Wilman from San Francisco de Macoris who was collecting money together with a group of his followers. The authorities ended the riot by using tear gas,
The victims, some with multiple stab wounds, were taken to the Inmaculada Concepcion hospital.
