The Emergency Operations Centre (COE) announced yesterday, Thursday, 12 April, that 6,155 people have had to leave their homes and 1,231 houses have been affected of which 16 have been totally destroyed in the recent heavy rains.
In addition, the Napier Diaz hospital in Villa Gonzalez, and Arturo Grullon hospital in Santiago were flooded and patients had to be temporarily evacuated.
The COE is maintaining its alert for 12 provinces with Monsenor Nouel (Bonao) on red alert, yellow for San Cristobal, Monte Plata, La Vega, Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui) and Santiago, and green for Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua), Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris), Puerto Plata, Samana, Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) and Montecristi.
They warned residents in these areas to take precautions against sudden mudslides.
