President Leonel Fernandez returned to Santo Domingo on Sunday, 15 April after attending the 66th United Nations General Assembly in New York and the 6th Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia. Fernandez had been abroad since Tuesday, 10 April on his 60th foreign trip in almost eight years in government.
According to the Presidency, at the UN Leonel Fernandez proposed the creation of a permanent study group to analyze factors behind the volatility of food and petroleum prices on world markets. In Colombia he proposed the creation of a special fund to finance micro, small and medium-sized companies to fight poverty and social inequality in Latin America.
