Migration announces enhanced security

The Department of Migration, in coordination with the National Department of Investigations (DNI) has announced the launch of Stages II and III of the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS). Both stages, which will be developed jointly, are aimed at providing one hundred percent coverage of air and sea operations in the Dominican Republic. The idea is for all carriers, both ships and aircraft, to provide full and complete lists of passengers and crew before arrival or departure. This will enable the security and immigration authorities to check files and speed up the whole process. As the new process was being explained, the technology supplier, ARINC's executive Jorge Ramirez said that the system already covers a large part of the arrivals and that charter flights and general aviation flights would now be covered by the process.
