The XV International Book Fair in Santo Domingo is the country's principal cultural event of the year, according to Pedro Antonio Valdez, the director of this year's fair. Valdez said that this year's fair would be filled with surprises and innovations, including a prize for Young Journalists and an exhibition honoring Mario Vargas Llosa and other Latin American authors.
The fair opens tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 April, and the new Metro 2 line will be providing free rides to people attending the fair. A total of 138 local booksellers and 88 international houses will be represented. The event takes place at the Plaza de la Cultura.
