Three people were killed and one was wounded in two separate incidents, an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Santiago and a shooting of a loan shark in La Romana, according to newspaper reports. In Santiago, a former Police sergeant and an alleged criminal died after a shootout in Ensanche Bermudez. The former sergeant was identified only as Nunez Ventura. No name was given in Hoy newspaper for the other fatality, as witnesses described how events unfolded at the Kaolix Pharmacy, owned by a PRD district leader and former Deputy Minister of Public Works, Juan Santana, when three men arrived in a car and one entered the premises. The others fled when they heard the gunshots. Rumors of other persons wounded were not confirmed.

In La Romana, a loan shark, Luis Emilio Jimenez Mota (a.k.a. Nueva York), 44, was killed by three gunshots fired by two men on a motorcycle. Another man was wounded in the shooting that took place in the Quisqueya sector. The District Attorney is investigating the possibility that this shooting was what is known as "a settling of accounts." The loan shark was attacked while he was at a nail salon that he operated on Manuel Beltre Street. His nephew said that the two men on the motorcycle, who were wearing helmets, fled towards the Romana del Oeste Residential sector, where they abandoned the motorcycle.
