Attorney General Radhames Jimenez Pena, created a commission yesterday, Wednesday 18 April to investigate claims of an alleged plot against PRD president Miguel Vargas Maldonado, revealed by deputies from his party.

In the meantime, PRD presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia told Diario Libre that he attributed the wiretapping of politicians to desperation on the part of the ruling party (the PLD), due to their candidate's poor showing in the opinion polls. Vargas Maldonado himself would only say that he would refer to this and other issues "when the time is right". The Attorney General assigned the investigation to magistrates Juan Amado Cedano Santana, the national director for Prosecution for the Justice Department, Jose Sepulveda and Francisco Polanco, prosecutors for the Appeals Court of the National District.
