Few know that the DR has one of the best women bowlers in the world, Aumi Guerra. Watch her compete starting today at the USBC Queens in Texas that attracts the best women bowlers in the world. The event takes place at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas, from 19 to 24 April.
The Dominican Republic's first and only Bowling World Cup winner, Aumi Guerra could be the country's best-kept secret. She is the Bowling World Champion, demonstrated on several occasions, but little known in the DR, land of baseball, volleyball and basketball.
Government support is down to US$200 a month from the military and US$150 from the Ministry of Sports, and she has to find her own sponsorship for travel worldwide.
She is one of the leading contestants at the USBC Queens in Texas.
Guerra just recently returned from the First Ibero-American Championship in Madrid, where she swept the individual women's division by winning all three gold medals in the Singles, Individual All Events and Masters Events. On game six of the Masters competition, she produced her highest score of 300 on the pair of lanes that gave her trouble all week, using two different balls. It was the first perfect game bowled by a woman in the 33-year history of Bowling Chamartin in Madrid. At the event she competed against teams from Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Panama and Puerto Rico.
Last year, she secured her second consecutive women's World Cup title when she defeated Diandra Asbaty of the United States, 202-199, in the deciding third game to win the 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, two-games-to-one held 30 Nov-7 Dec 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
