The National Police have posted a special patrol manned by hawk-eyed agents along Route 66, which links Las Americas International airport with the highway, in order to provide travelers with enhanced security.
The plan was suggested by the head of the National Police, Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, and implemented by the Regional Director of Santo Domingo East, General Ludwin Sualdi Correa, following an increase in the number of complaints by travelers who have been victims of attacks after arriving from overseas. They were followed from the airport to their homes, where they were attacked by armed men.
The National Police, led by Lieutenant Colonel Omar Garcia, have also increased their vigilance in the public area of the airport.
