The construction of a new highway linking the Cibao with the south of the country will begin today, Wednesday 25 April, in the presence of President Leonel Fernandez and the Minister of Public Works, Victor Diaz Rua.
The new road will go from the Cruce de Piedra Blanca and Juan Adrian, in Monsenor Nouel province, and will connect with Rancho Arriba, Sabana Larga, San Jose de Ocoa and the Cruce de Ocoa in the south.
According to the Ministry of Public Works, the two-lane highway, which will be 83 kilometers long, is designed for a speed of between 40 and 60 kilometers an hour. This represents a saving of 83 kilometers over the current 159km route via Santo Domingo.
Construction is by Norberto Odebrecht and Rizek Associates, and the project also includes 15 new bridges and 210 drains, as reported in El Caribe.
