Today, 25 April, the country marks the 47th anniversary of the 1965 April Revolution when a group of PRD members, headed by Francisco Alberto Caamano, and known as Constitutionalists, took the National Palace and installed Jose Rafael Molina Urena as provisional president. They were fighting to return former President Juan Bosch to office and wanted democracy to be restored. The army tried to retake the palace on 25 April but the Constitutionalists held their position and began to take the rest of the country. The twelve men are recognized by a military foundation known as the 12 Officers, and their action is considered to be responsible for the return of the Dominican Republic to democracy.
