Peravia lawyer Julio Franjul, 66, accused members of the Guerrero family of his kidnapping on Wednesday, 25 April. He said he was in his office on Calle Duarte in Bani when he was kidnapped, as reported in El Caribe on Friday, 27 April. He said the Guerrero family has spent two years harassing him for 3,000 tareas of land that he inherited from his father in La Angostura, Matanzas, Peravia. He said the property has belonged to his family for more than 100 years. In an interview with El Caribe he said he is still in pain as a result of the beating he received from his kidnappers, who took him out of his office at gunpoint to a mountainous area in San Juan province. He said that as soon as he was kidnapped his neighbors called the police, which immediately located him and confronted the kidnappers. Juan Leonardo Pimentel and Abraham Rafael Soto were killed in the clash between police and the suspected kidnappers. The Police arrested Juan Jose Guerrero, and a fourth person identified as Alberto Luis Perez escaped. The police unit rescued Franjul unharmed.

As reported, Perez had posted bail for armed robbery on a betting shop just last week.
