The Spanish authorities have seized a 708kg cocaine shipment that arrived at the Port of Barcelona concealed in a cargo ship on 27 April. The drug consignment was hidden in a shipment of dried coconuts from the Dominican Republic. Spanish Civil Guard commander Alejandro Anelho, chief of port security, said that it was one of the largest hauls ever recorded.
Last October, another shipment of 625 kilos of cocaine sent from the Dominican Republic was found hidden in a coffee shipment at the port.
