The Dominican Republic women's volleyball team defeated Honduras and Canada in its first two games in the Norceca Women's Olympic Qualification Volleyball Tournament taking place in Tijuana, Mexico. This is the DR's last chance to win a berth to play in the London Olympics. Only 12 teams will play in the Olympics. The DR team made the Olympics in 2004.

The DR defeated Honduras 3-3 (25-5, 25-5, 25-7), in a game where the strong serves of the Dominican Republic proved to be the key for the victory as they outscored their opponents 29-1 in the aces category. The DR, ranked ninth in the world, also convincingly defeated 22nd ranked Canada 3-1 (25-12, 27-25, 21-25, 25-15). The DR still needs to face Puerto Rico in Group A on Tuesday. The winners of both A and B advance to Friday night's semifinals. The second and third-placed teams will be involved in quarterfinals the night before. The final is scheduled for Saturday night and the champs will qualify for the Olympics in London in August.
