A new provincial hospital equipped with advanced medical technology and serving more than 200,000 people in the province of Monte Plata was formally opened yesterday, Tuesday 1 May by President Leonel Fernandez and Public Health Minister Dr. Bautista Rojas Gomez.

Listin Diario reports that the hospital has 120 beds in 70 private and 40 semi-private rooms, as well as 25 bedrooms for doctors and nurses. It also has double and triple rooms, and children's wards with six beds each. There is a labor and delivery area, and a neonatal center with two incubators.

There are also three main operating theatres, one for general surgery, one for gynecological surgery and one in the emergency room.

The hospital, which was constructed at a cost of RD$18.5 million, has an intensive care unit with four beds, 15 consulting rooms, a medical laboratory, blood bank and x-ray machine.
