Attorney General Radhames Jimenez Pena has confirmed that people in jail on remand cannot vote in the elections on 20 May. Jimenez Pena explained that the suspension of the measure that applied to people who have recently been jailed was taken for logistical reasons and stated he would agree with whatever decision was taken by the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
There are 918 inmates who could have exercised their right to vote on 20 May in 13 new model prisons and 3 old model institutions. However, now they will have to wait until at least 2016 before they can vote.
