The Public Prosecutor is questioning Mercedes Batista, 20, who sold her eight-month old son for RD$100,000. She was arrested on Monday afternoon, 30 April in the Pekin sector of Santiago after various days on the run.
Batista said she had to sell the child due to poverty and the lady who bought the child was unable to have children of her own. Batista believed the child would be better off with her.
It is not yet known if charges will be brought against the woman who bought the child.
