Dominican children's theater producer, Nuryn Sanlley died on Monday night, 2 May, of complications from brain cancer. She underwent surgery for a tumor in her left side of her brain last September. She was just 59 years old.

The creator of the La Pinky children's music and dance show character, she is recognized as a leading innovator in Dominican show business. She was the first Dominican theater producer to purchase the rights to present Dominican versions of leading international plays, among other firsts.

Born in Santo Domingo to Spanish parents, she was married twice, to Edgar Pena and Dante Cucurullo. She began her career as a singer in 1982, but moved on to become an actress and producer of musical shows, introducing the legendary character of La Pinky. In 1995 she won a Casandra award for her show La Lampara Maravillosa, a Dominican version of Aladdin. She was known as an actress with roles in comedy films like Sanky Panky, Megadiva and Cada oveja con su pareja.

She had been working on a show celebrating her 35 years in show business. She leaves three children, Edgar, Yelitza and Catherine.
