Juan Arias, the head of the data section at the Seismological Institute at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) said the fact that there were six small quakes in one day recently represents no danger for the country.

He said that the first was at 3.24 in the morning of Monday, 30 April, registering 3.8 on the Richter scale in La Romana. The second was at 6am north of Samana, at 3.3 on the Richter scale, and the third was a 3.4 in the Mona Passage at 7.50am and another at 8.10am.

The fifth quake was a 3.4 magnitude in Hato Mayor at 8.27am, and the last was in Nagua at 8.56 in the morning measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale.

Arias assured that these quakes were normal and that some days there are between five and eight earthquakes here, but some days there are none.
