Yesterday, Thursday 3 May, with just two weeks to go before the 20 May presidential election President Leonel Fernandez was in Santiago to inaugurate various projects and visit several others under construction. On his arrival he met with business leaders and members of the Santiago Strategic Development Committee and they discussed several planned projects, including the Central Park.
Later, Fernandez went to the community of Salados Viejo where he inaugurated a Catholic Church built at a cost of RD$9 million, and then went on to supervise the road paving work in the La Colina sector that is 70% complete. The road pavement program for Santiago has cost RD$400 million and the President also inaugurated roads in Mella I, Mella II and La Union.
He then went to Cienfuegos to check on the progress of an RD$80 million sports center, and then to Bella Vista where he inaugurated a basketball court, then Barrio Nuevo for roads and finished his visit in Baitoa where he checked on the progress of a bridge and a hospital, as reported in Listin Diario.
Recently released results for the Centro Economico del Cibao poll show Hipolito Mejia leading in preferences in Santiago with 51.3% to 38.3% for Danilo Medina of the PLD.
