Ruling PLD party campaign strategists are gaining mileage from a comment by the PRD presidential candidate, former President Hipolito Mejia, on how corruption penetrates all sectors of life. To make the point, in a presentation of his government proposal, Mejia said, "Corruption here is not to be taken lightly. If you look the other way, your domestic help will steal the fillet steak and give it to her boyfriend."

The media reported on a protest in Park Enriquillo from 7am, with a group of people claiming to be domestic workers holding up signs saying: "Domestic workers are not thieves. We demand respect." They were condemning Mejia for accusing them of stealing food from the houses where they worked to give to their boyfriends.

Spokeswoman Paula Brito said that they were not thieves, but women who worked to earn money to support their children with dignity.

Another protester, Dulce Maria Celeste Mendez called upon the PRD candidate to behave with more consideration towards working women who have raised their children to become professionals thanks to the sacrifices that they make every day.
