The DR continues in its quest to qualify for the London summer Olympics today, Friday 4 May when it plays Canada at the North, Central America and Caribbean (Norceca) Women's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament taking place in Tijuana, Mexico. The DR, Cuba, Canada and Puerto Rico are playing the semi-finals. To follow the games, see norceca.org
Back in the 2008 Olympic qualifier in Monterrey, Mexico, Canada upset the Dominican Republic (27-25, 25-17 and 25-19) in the semis but lost to Cuba in the final. Cuba will match Puerto Rico today.
The championship game will be played on Saturday and the winner advances to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
If the DR fails to win the tournament, its last qualifying opportunity for London will be in the world tournament playoffs, scheduled for next May in Japan.
