Former President Hipolito Mejia, campaigning for the PRD, promised to give special attention to saving the tourism industry in the north if elected President in the 20 May election. He promised better days ahead for farm producers who suffered bankruptcy due to the Fernandez administration imports policy. He promised that under him the era of imports would come to an end, and guaranteed better financial yields for rice, pineapple, cacao and milk producers. He visited 12 provinces in the Cibao and the northwest between Friday and Sunday.
