Two arrested in canned cocaine case

The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) has announced the arrest of two people in the case of a seized shipment of cocaine to Spain, camouflaged in 77 Famosa brand cans of pigeon peas. Juan Maria Amparo de Leon and Arelis Gutierrez de Leon were arrested in the case. The DNCD confiscated a laptop, a press for sealing cans, a scale, 32 cans without labels and a bag with 31 receipts of shipping through a remittance company from Arelis Gutierrez. The drug, which was to being sent from East Haina Port, was discovered shortly before the shipment was due to leave to the Port of Tarragona, Spain. The shipment was addressed to a company called Global Food Spain, said DNCD spokesman, Roberto Lebron.
