A blaze turned into a major fire at the Pueblo de Pescadores in Las Terrenas yesterday, Sunday 6 May. The fire gutted the row of restaurants that borders the center side of Las Terrenas Beach. The area got its name from the fishermen who bring in their daily catch to be served at the restaurants. It was a leading attraction for tourism in northern Samana.
The Association of Hotels and Tourist Companies of Samana (AHETSA) expressed its sorrow at the tragedy and pledged support to mitigate the effects of the destruction of so many small beachside businesses.
