The Dominican-American Round Table says that the increasing number of Dominicans seeking US government positions ranging from boards of education to the US Congress, is a clear sign of a group that has reached milestones in population, economic base, education, and public arena.

DANR says that there are already 40 current elected officials of Dominican descent, but more are seeking office. A rundown of Dominican-Americans competing for new posts is:

In Paterson, New Jersey five young professionals are seeking to occupy seats on the city council on May 8th: Julio Tavarez (re-election), Alex Mendez, Wilkin Santana, Pedro Rodriguez, and Flavio Rivera.

In Roselle, New Jersey, current Board of Education President Erik Cedano is seeking a council seat on June 5th.

In Perth Amboy, New Jersey, businessman Frank Salado is seeking the mayoral seat on November 4th

In New York, State Senator Adriano Espaillat is hoping to become the first US Congress member of Dominican descent in the June 26 primaries.

In Lawrence, Massachusetts, State Representative Marcos Devers is seeking reelection and Frank Moran is seeking a Representative seat in the 17th District on November 6th.

In Providence Rhode Island, State Senator Juan Pichardo will seek re-election to a 5th term, and Representative Grace Diaz will seek re-election to a 4th term.
