After declaring a strike that started early yesterday, Tuesday 8 May, a success, last night the National Dominican Transport Federation (Fenatrado) called it off and instructed its members to go back to work.

Fenatrado leaders said, however, that their campaign to get the Ministry of Public Works and other government departments to pay an outstanding debt of RD$300 million would continue, but after the elections.

The president of Fenatrado, Blas Peralta, apologized to their clients for the strike but said that they were fighting to live in a country with peace and harmony

Peralta stated that he had agreed to call off the strike following calls from the two main presidential candidates, Danilo Medina and Hipolito Mejia as well as representatives from business sectors, as reported in El Dia.
