Hoy reports that the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewage Corporation in (CAASD) is urging residents in the metropolitan area to use as little water as possible for the next few days, while repair work is carried out on the Valdesia aqueduct.

Valdesia produces 67% of Greater Santo Domingo's water needs and for that reason most sectors will be affected over the next few days. The areas between Abraham Lincoln Av. and the Haina Bridge and most of the northern part of the capital are expected to be particularly affected.

CAASD director engineer Freddy Perez said that people used to using 120 liters a day should only use half that amount for the next two days, and that he regrets the situation. He went on to say that anyone who breaks pipelines should be identified and brought to justice. He said that in the last few days there have been six cases of damaged pipeline that he described as tantamount to sabotage.
