A mission of business owners from Samana traveled to Santo Domingo yesterday, Tuesday, 8 May, and met with Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia to evaluate the damage suffered by the row of restaurants and bars in Las Terrenas known as Pueblo de los Pescadores, following a devastating fire in the early hours of Monday, 7 May. The Ministry has announced that funds from the Special Fund of the Ministry of Tourism would be used for the reconstruction with the same traditional architecture that made the area so popular. The meeting was led by architects Maribel Villalona and Joselyn Vasquez from the Ministry of Tourism's Planning and Projects Department and by Elsa Leon, deputy minister for Samana.
The funds, which come from the tax charged to air passengers, will be used to rebuild eight businesses that were affected, as reported in Hoy.
