There were violent protests in the streets yesterday, Tuesday 8 May in Duarte and Santiago provinces about the state of the roads and other public works that local community organizations have been requesting for years.
The protests were organized by the Popular Front (FALPO), neighborhood groups and organizations, along with other community groups.
In Duarte province all activity in the areas of Los Maestros, Los Rieles, La Castellana and San Francisco came to a standstill as a result of the protests.
A spokesman for FALPO in San Francisco de Macoris, Raul Monegro, said that they were hoping that the Governor, Luz Selene Plata and other authorities would now listen to their demands as a result of the protests.
In Limonal and Las Palomas in Santiago province, protesters blocked the Duarte highway, the main road linking Licey with Moca and Santiago, with burning tires and other debris.
