The opposition PRD presidential candidate, Hipolito Mejia, says that he will file a complaint before the Organization of American States (OAS), claiming that the government party is using military and police personnel to intimidate leading PRD members. He said that some of these alleged actions of pressure and intimidation by members of the Armed Forces and the National Police take place in the provinces and he anticipated that they would see other actions of this type in the coming days. Local Channel 55 in Santiago reported a case as described by Mejia in the sector of Nibaje.
"It is you - the delegates on the election boards - who have to check that things are done right out there, independent of pressures, the fear that is going to appear in the next few days. In the coming days they will begin to try and scare everyone in all the marginal areas so that the people do not go out and they are even going to throw their little bombs," the candidate said during an event with teachers. The teachers then interrupted his talk to chant: "There is no fear here!" and the candidate went on with his talk. He said: "I know there isn't."
