In response to a complaint from PRD presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia, who stated that members of the military forces could intimidate voters, the National Business Council (Conep) is confident that this will not be the case.

Conep president Manuel Diez said that senior Conep members had visited the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to find out how the election would be run, and he is now satisfied that Dominicans will have a transparent electoral process.

He said that he also hopes that the election will be efficient and reflect the will of the people, calling on the JCE to keep working to eliminate any type of confrontation.

Eddy Olivares from the JCE said that he did not believe that the military were involved in politics, that it would violate the Constitution and that this type of action needs to remain in the past.

JCE president Roberto Rosario has assured the public that there are no indications that the results of the election would be tampered with using the Internet, as reported in El Caribe.
