El Nuevo Diario reports that Francisco Martinez, a prison officer in the US, who was out on bail, has fled to his native Dominican Republic in the middle of his trial. He was convicted in his absence of having sexually abused his wife over three years, although he was cleared of the charge of rape.
Martinez, aged 43, was sentenced to seven years in jail, which he will serve when the Dominican authorities find him and extradite him to New York.
