Police arrest one in young lieutenant murder

The Police have arrested four men, including one who was injured by a bullet, in connection with the murder of 24-year old Police second lieutenant, architect Daniel Orlando Pena Valera on Wednesday evening, 9 May, in the Naco neighborhood in Santo Domingo. The Police said that the injured man was arrested when he was taken to a clinic in Villa Juana for treatment on the evening of the shootout. Pena Valera was the son of the Central Bank security chief, also a former director of the Tourism Police (Politur) and in charge of security of President Leonel Fernandez, Colonel Alexis Pena Mancebo. Pena was murdered around 10pm on Wednesday, 9 May when parked at Calle Fantino Falco, in Naco, by the unknown assailants. He was sitting in his white Honda Accord apparently waiting for his girlfriend who lives in the area. Individuals in a vehicle and motorcycle stopped and fired at him. It is believed that Pena fired back to defend himself. His father suspects the motive was to steal his cell phone that was missing along with his gun.
