Some 30 workers at a cigar factory in Santiago were taken to city hospitals at noon yesterday, Thursday, 10 May, following a gas leak at a cigar factory. Sixteen of them have been hospitalized, including five at the Santiago HOMS. Reportedly, the workers inadvertently inhaled propane gas that leaked from tanks located at the Compania Panamericana de Tabaco (Copata) tobacco processing plant where they worked in Licey al Medio, Santiago. News reports say that around half of the workers affected were women, as reported in Hoy. The 200 workers at the factory were sent home that day.
