President Leonel Fernandez was in La Romana on Friday, 11 May to inaugurate public works worth RD$355 million, including four schools and three sports pavilions built by the government. Fernandez inaugurated the new Club Deportivo Ramon Marrero Aristy, two churches and newly paved streets in 10 barrios.
The schools built by the Ministry of Education are the Juan Pablo Duarte, Salome Urena II, Profesor Heriberto Payano and La Parcela high schools. The sports pavilion is located in San Carlos and the multiuse pavilion is in La Caleta, as reported in Listin Diario.
Fernandez was also present at the formal inauguration of the Centro de Diagnosticos por Imagenes y Hemodialisis, an advanced medical center at the Central Romana company's Dr. Francisco Gonzalvo Hospital, built at a cost of RD$250 million.
Over the weekend, President Leonel Fernandez campaigned for his party in San Pedro de Macoris and then went west to San Cristobal and Bani.
On Sunday, Fernandez traveled to Santiago for the closing of the PLD campaign in the central provinces, joining candidate Danilo Medina and his wife Margarita Cedeno at the regional grand finale.
As reported in Listin Diario, he forecast that the PLD would sweep the election, winning in 32 provinces.
