With the polls showing Danilo Medina in the lead, the PLD candidate has announced that he has the support of the Chinese immigrants in the DR. The president of the Chinese community in the country, Suking Fong announced his support during an event organized by the organization. Others expressing their support included Ricardo Cheaz, Yuri Cheaz, Jon Cheaz Fong and Gionguey Sang, as reported in Listin Diario.
At the event, Medina, who was welcomed with a traditional dragon dance, committed to encouraging increased Chinese investment in the country, strengthening bilateral relations with China, opening an embassy there and for China to send an ambassador to the DR for the formalization of diplomatic relations.
He also committed to opening a cultural center with information on Chinese culture and the contributions Chinese immigrants have made to the DR.
