The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has trained 287 pastors representing non-Catholic religious denominations to celebrate weddings. In the past, only Catholic Church priests could officiate weddings and followers of other Christian religions had to go through a civil marriage process with a Justice of Peace. As reported in Diario Libre, the JCE is working on the application of Law 198-11 that regulates weddings in the DR that is in effect as of January 2012. The newly authorized pastors are from churches including the Iglesia Asamblea de Dios, 96; Asamblea de Iglesia Pentecostal, 18; Concilio Cristiano 15; Iglesia Apostolica Misionera 14; Iglesia Adventista del Septimo Dia, 14; Concilio Menonita, 13; Iglesia Metodista Libre, 12; Iglesia de Dios de la Profecia and Asamblea Cristiana 10.
