The Dominican Conference of Bishops (CED) is calling on Catholics, the non-Catholic Christian communities and all the men and women of goodwill to take part in a Day of Prayer next Saturday 19 May. The idea of the Day of Prayer is to ask the Lord for an election day that is peaceful, harmonious and which respects the conscious of each citizen. The written statement by the Permanent Board of the Conference of Bishops calls on all of the clergy, lay members of the church and all community leaders to hold prayer meetings. The bishops asked for people to gather as families and take part in the Mass and ask the protector of the nation, Our Lady of Altagracia and the Patron of the Dominican Republic, Our Lady of Las Mercedes to intercede with her Son in order for the country to celebrate exemplary elections.
