I'm going to playa dorada in a few weeks...Just wanted a heads up on the New(well not new anymore) club over there. I haven't been there in a few years. There is a Cocobongos here in New Jersey but I doubt they have anything in common besides the name. Is it a good place to be at? It hasnt been mentioned much on the boards...that might answer my own question lol

I must have missed the bit where the OP says he has rented a helicopter.

I went to Coco Bongos last July for my birthday with some Dominican friends. I was really disappointed. They didn't have Presidente light, the beer was warm, the music was typical North American techno, and the club was full of NA college age tourists (no Domincanas).

We then went to Roadway, which is located in the same complex. It was much better. They played reggaeton, denbow and bachata. Not much people in Roadway but there were four hot looking hookers in the bar and one of them tried to pick me up.

Anyway, seeing the hookers in Roadway made me yearn to be back in Sosua . So we ended up at Rumba bar in Sosua.

Getting back to Coco Bongos in Playa Dorada, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you like a typical NA dance club, then CB may be for you.

On a side note, a few locals have told me that the club La Coppa (located near Playa Dorada) is very good. I haven't been there, but I may check it out next trip.

It's less the 2 minutes from the western entrance of Playa Dorado heading into POP city. You will find many Dominican chicas that need your $$$ for :quicky:. Music is mixed, no entry fee, drinks priced OK, and a very good casino next door. If you need a cabana then I'm sure the chica will help as it will be difficult to take her back to your AI resort.

I have never been to La Copa (or is it La Coppa?) but have always looked for it when driving past and have never spotted the sign. I presume it is (or was) the disco facing the main road immediately alongside the casino? If so, it is now called "Pure" and the whole facade is plastered with that name.

I have never understood why, when guys staying in Puerto Plata ask for local spots, instead of answering their question, members immediately say "go to Sosúa". Doesn't it ever enter their minds to consider that if these guys wanted to do stuff in Sosúa they would stay there in the first place? The more often I visited Puerto Plata, and the longer I have lived there since, the less attraction Sosúa had for me. I only go there now to chastise my son or to bum a free meal off ErikS.

I suspect the putas in Pure (and/or La Copa) will be high-priced as they have a captive market of AI customers and wealthy Dominicans. For more reasonably priced putas try Field of Dreams which is a safe 10/15 minute walk from your hotel through the Playa Dorada grounds. Not much choice but probably as many as in the disco. The great advantage of going there is you can rent a room for short-time instead of paying for a taxi and a cabaña. Most chicas there between 4.00pm and 8.00pm after which, if they haven't found a taker, they try their luck elsewhere.

For non-putas and semi-putas try El Furgón and the smaller bars nearby along Avenida Luis Ginebra, just a 20 peso publico or guagua ride from Playa Dorada to the gyratory then a five-minute safe walk.
