The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has confirmed that all the personal ID and voter registration cards (cedulas) that expired between 2000 and 2012 are valid for voting in the elections on Sunday. The decision was adopted by the JCE Plenary last December. For this reason, all citizens whose IDs have these expiration dates can exercise their rights to vote without any problem, because they appear registered in the Voter Registration Rolls for the election on Sunday, 20 May 2012.

The JCE said that these IDs are also valid for all normal activities, for the exercise of civil and political rights, in addition to voting. Holders of documents with expiration dates of 2002, 2003, 2004, etc. up to 2012 do not have to worry about being able to vote.

JCE communications director Felix Reyna held a press conference to clear out the confusion among many citizens who were worried because they believed that their cedulas had expired.
