Travelers heading north need to avoid the Carretera Turistica La Cumbre-Santiago-Puerto Plata. The highway is known for its outstanding views, but also is vulnerable to landslides during heavy rainfall. According to El Nacional, several communities are cut off as the Ministry of Public Works has heavy equipment in the area to repair the roads. The communities affected are Camu, Monte Llano, Yasica, Arroyo Ancho, Palo Blanco, La U and Tubagua.
