There is a nationwide ban on the sale of alcohol from 6am Saturday morning until 9pm Sunday night due to the election.:mad::mad:

Hotels and casinos may be exempt from this but expect a quiet weekend in the bars and clubs.

What the fuck??? and I'm coming down this weekend on Sunday. I'm not going to be able to get a Presidente ???? Will the New Garden be selling beer when I get there Sunday afternoon? I can't wait till 9pm!!!

From DR1

Stock up on alcohol for drinking on Saturday and Sunday because all day Saturday and until 9pm on Sunday, stores, restaurants/bars are banned from selling liquor. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) reminded Dominicans that Article 109 of the Electoral Law establishes the ban.

Talk about a double whammy - an influx of mongers coming in for the long weekend that will prolly have to pay inflated prices to the chicas in the clubs.................and then they won't be able to drink alcohol to help them forget the inflated prices they are going to pay .

Based on how heated this election has been, this is probably for the best. The last time an election was this close was 1994 Balaguer v. Peņa Gomez and that almost resulted in a civil war. There's probably going to be some pockets of violence and it's best to keep alcohol out of it until the tempers cool down.

As for the 3 or 4 popular places for locals in POP last night, actually not. El Furgon canceled Karaoke thinking the locals would all come out and drink more before the weekend ban, it didn't work

This will be my 3rd election here. The ban is really real, better believe it.

Passions is closed today and tomorrow. Rumba is open but has signs saying no alcohol served.

Bar Central in closed which is a pity as I was going to watch FC Bayern stuff Chelsea in the Champions League final this afternoon.

I did however commiserate with myself with a 300 peso blowjob from a street skank:iconTU:

Sadly that thought did enter my mind but was quickly discarded as I realised all her body parts were in the normal range.

I stocked up on soda, Brugal and vodka...Looks like I will be hosting a party for my guests tonight...and I will be paying for it. Though the alcohol ban ends tomorrow night at 9pm, I would not want to be anywhere near the bars like Eflow when all hell could break loose...election results are promised to be released at 10pm Sunday night. People here get real worked up about the election I am told...

With this ban on alcohol, I feel sorry for Robert's Chica...

Everything is supposed to be shut down, but in the past I've seen tons of colmados that start selling as early as 6 in the afternoon.

Most of them were small corner places that would discretely sell alcoholic beverages to be taken back to the house.

Not too many had folks sitting out in front tossing down cold ones. Comadones also start selling a little earlier than 9.

The whole election process is going to be a little different this time. We're expecting to hear how the results are going almost from the get go.

In any case, you can be sure everybody stocked up during the week. Ain't nobody gonna be starvin' for booze.

I drove around about 8:30 and it was pretty dead. Most places were dark although Rumba was open.

Well off to the airport to a country where I can't even buy a beer. JFK-MIA-POP via American Airlines.

Hang in there... you have waited this long for your return trip, a few more hours after arrival "shouldn't" kill ya. Pick up a bottle in duty free Miami, to hold you over the 4-5 hours!

Enjoy your trip.

Some of my guests visited a small comado/restaurant last night and they were given beers in a plastic bag to be taken home to drink. Some other Dominican guests told me that people start to ignore the liquor ban at about 6pm in Santo Domingo...maybe that will happen today in Sosua?

Gotta love a country so passionate about voting they suspend the selling of liquor. I guess they'll make it up during christmas and new years.

Was just told that the POP bars on 16th, Ave Luis Ginebar, Malecon, Rancho Tipico, and the La Canita area were ordered by the police not to open at all tonight.
