Economist Isidoro Santana told Hoy newspaper that he feels that the Danilo Medina administration should not try and fix all the Dominican Republic's problems, but should concentrate on a few of them. He adds that education, an effective competitive stance for the economy, good use of public resources and ensuring that social security reaches all Dominicans are the big challenges facing President-elect Medina.

He noted that education has been a forgotten priority for many years and that all Dominicans needed to feel secure and protected by the social security system.

Reporter Ubaldo Guzman of Hoy quoted Santana as saying that the Medina government needed to create the conditions for the economy to be more competitive because the country simply cannot continue to import double what it exports. He said that the country could not continue to depend on foreign capital. He concluded by saying that there were obvious issues with the electricity and agriculture and once the new administration begins to resolve some of these problem areas, the public will be more willing to pay taxes and support their efforts.
