President Leonel Fernandez will inaugurate about 100 public works projects all over the country before his successor, Danilo Medina, takes office 16 August. According to El Nuevo Diario, these projects have cost or will cost taxpayers some RD$35 billion. They include roads, like the San Juan de la Maguana to Barahona highway, the new cancer hospital in Santo Domingo, sports facilities and new bridges. One of the more unusual projects to be opened by the President will be the "Community College" in the municipal district of San Luis in Santo Domingo province, modeled on the United States feeder system for gaining admission to four-year university courses. This CC will feature technical courses that can be used for college credits.
