The Attorney General of the Republic, Radhames Jimenez Pena, has sent a letter to President Leonel Fernandez, announcing his resignation from the post. "Courteously, after greeting you, I would like to address you on this occasion to tender my irrevocable resignation from the position of Attorney General of the Republic, effective 16 August 2012." In the letter, he expresses his appreciation to the President who appointed him to the position on 16 August 2006. He mentions as achievements that the Justice Department created more than 600 career prosecutors (now permanent employees) and a new model for managing the prosecutors' offices. He adds that he is leaving a new management model for the penitentiaries, which now have 16 correctional and rehabilitation centers and 18 centers for dealing with victims of gender violence nationwide.

A graduate in law from UASD state university, prior to the post Jimenez Pena served as lawyer at the Abel Rodriguez del Orbe lawyers' office from 1986-1995, until joining Leonel Fernandez and Margarita Cedeno to found the Fernandez y Asociados law firm. In 2000, he represented controversial Senator Felix Bautista in a corruption case involving the construction of the San Juan Highway under his responsibility during the President Leonel Fernandez's first term of government, 1996-2000. Bautista was acquitted in the case.
