A report published today, Monday, 28 May, documenting crime rates in the Province of Santo Domingo and National District (city of Santo Domingo) shows Santo Domingo East with the highest levels. So far this year the municipality has reported 25 murders, two femicides, 29 robberies, 16 injuries and 111 people arrested up to 30 April 2012, according to analysis of police press notices by journalist Mairobi Herrera for Listin Diario. In the analysis, the barrios in Greater Santo Domingo with most crimes reported are Los Mina, Sabana Perdida, Arroyo Hondo, Villa Mella, Los Guaricanos, Los Alcarrizos and Herrera. The newspaper reports that there were 69 murders in Greater Santo Domingo, and that 13 of the victims were policemen.
A recent report on the statistics released by the District Attorney of Santo Domingo's Homicides Department says that the most violent places are Los Alcarrizos and Buenos Aires de Herrera, in Santo Domingo West municipality, and El Almirante, Los Mina, Invivienda and La Toronja in Santo Domingo East. The report of the Province of Santo Domingo released by District Attorney Olga Dina Llaverias found that there were 200 murders in the Province so far this year, of which 181 victims were men and 19 women. Of the 19 women, nine were killed in domestic violence.
